From Kimberly Ward in Montpelier, VT, USA:
Hello, Nan: I am so excited to see you have a sight on line because I am directing The
Scarlet Pimpernel this summer and in distress about the shortening of the number "The
Scarlet Pimpernel." I realize from reading up that the show was revamped several times and that
the full version of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" was shortened to just a tiny scene change number. I
have talked with Tams-Witmark's musical department and they say the older, longer version is not
available through them. Is there some other way the rights/orchestral music could be acquired? I
have such a vision of the larger number, and so many more chorus members would be engaged in it,
that I am hoping there's a way...

Dear Kimberly,
Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I'm afraid I know of no way to get a hold of
the orchestral score for Pimpernel. However, you could contact Tams-Witmark, the company
which controls the licensing for the show. As for the first version of the title song, it does
exist - it is in the original Broadway sheet music book. However, using it is also not something
you could do without the express permission of Tams-Witmark. Essentially, there is now one
official version of Pimpernel, and doing any other version would be restricted or
prevented by Tams-Witmark. Thankfully, it's also my favorite of all the versions. I wish you luck
with your production.
Best,
Nan
